Chapter 19: Yan Lin’s Peculiar Behavior

Chu Baihan handed the medicine to him and said calmly, “Your Highness, please drink the medicine.”

“How do I know it’s not poisoned?” Yan Lin raised his brows, his tone cold.

Great, his paranoia was acting up again.

“In that case, I’ll test it with a silver needle first.” Chu Baihan replied in a muffled voice.

She turned to look for a silver needle to test the medicine, only to realize she didn’t bring one.

She frowned in frustration but suddenly thought of an idea, and her furrowed brows slowly relaxed.

She waited silently for a moment, then said directly, “Your Highness, I’ve tested it. The silver needle didn’t change color. It’s not poisoned.”

    Yan Lin: “…”

    Does she think I’m blind?

Though his eyesight had somewhat recovered, and he still couldn’t see her face clearly, he could make out her little movements. She hadn’t tested the medicine at all.

He clenched his molars tightly. He really wanted to strangle her—how dare she act like this right in front of him?

“Your Highness, please drink the medicine.” Chu Baihan had no patience left. She just wanted him to take the medicine quickly so she could go to sleep.

She had spent two whole hours brewing it, and now her eyelids were drooping. She was *really* sleepy.

“You really tested it?” Yan Lin asked through gritted teeth.

Sensing something off in his tone, Chu Baihan felt a little guilty.

Why did it feel like he had seen through her?

“O-of course I tested it! Your Highness, you can’t accuse me just because you can’t see. If you think I didn’t test it—well, did you *see* me not test it?” Chu Baihan’s tone gradually grew more self-assured.

Anyway, he couldn’t see properly right now. Whatever she said would be the truth.

    Yan Lin: “…”

He opened his mouth, ready to refute her, but then something crossed his mind. He swallowed his frustration and said coldly, “Give me the medicine.”

“Yes, Your Highness.” Chu Baihan beamed with a bright smile.

Just after Yan Lin finished drinking the medicine, an urgent voice called from outside: “Princess Consort, you left your silver needle!”

    Chu Baihan: “…”

    The atmosphere instantly turned cold.

Yan Lin sneered, “Princess Consort, didn’t you say you already tested the medicine with the silver needle?”

“I-I have two sets of silver needles,” Chu Baihan replied awkwardly, pulling that excuse out of nowhere.

She quickly opened the door, grabbed the silver needle from Ruo Lan’s hand, and then forced herself to appear calm as she said, “Your Highness, it’s time for acupuncture.”

As she spoke, she took the initiative to tug at his clothes.

“This is part of detoxification, Your Highness. Please don’t feel uncomfortable. When I treated patients in Jiangnan, I did this regardless of gender.”

To prevent this prince from thinking she was trying to take advantage of him, she explained quickly.

Hearing this, Yan Lin frowned, feeling a little displeased.

“The Princess Consort is truly different from those noble young ladies,” he scoffed coldly.

His tone didn’t sound like praise at all.

Whatever. No need to take it to heart.

Comforting herself silently, Chu Baihan picked up the silver needle, passed it through a flame, and then began pricking his acupuncture points.

“Today, I’ll focus on restoring your sense of smell. That medicine earlier—I brewed it for two whole hours, personally watched over it, handled everything myself…”

As she performed the acupuncture, Chu Baihan muttered non-stop.

She wasn’t trying to boast; she just wanted him to understand her effort—so that the next time he considered killing her, he might hesitate out of gratitude.

Hearing her words, Yan Lin’s expression darkened slightly, and his thin lips pressed tightly together.

An excruciating hour passed. Chu Baihan felt like her fingertips were about to blister, but finally, the last needle was inserted.

She eagerly asked, “Do you feel anything now? Is your vision any better?”

After a brief pause, Yan Lin blinked, then answered with an expressionless face, “No.”

    No?

Chu Baihan’s hopeful expression instantly faded into disappointment.

She sighed. “Alright, maybe I was too impatient.”

“Oh, and you still have needles in your back. They need to stay in for at least two more hours, so don’t sleep yet. When the time’s right, ask Dr. Wei to remove them for you.”

With that, she turned to leave.

Realizing she was about to leave first, Yan Lin’s face turned unpleasant.

“You’re this prince’s wife, and also my physician. My needles aren’t even out yet, and you want to leave?”

“Your Highness, I spent so long brewing the medicine and then performed acupuncture for so long. I’m exhausted. I need to rest,” Chu Baihan replied helplessly.

Why did it feel like this prince was getting harder and harder to please?

“There’s a bed here. Stay,” Yan Lin blurted out.

But the moment he said it, he regretted it.

He hadn’t forgotten that whenever she slept here, she always tried something suspicious.

With an awkward tone, he added, “Nanny Xiao is still in the manor. If we sleep separately again, I’ll surely be summoned to the palace by Grandmother tomorrow.”

    Oh, right. Chu Baihan frowned.

There was still Nanny Xiao… She had almost forgotten.

She sighed helplessly and resignedly walked over to the small, narrow couch, muttering under her breath, “How long do I have to keep sleeping on this tiny little thing?”

Glaring at her back, a certain prince sneered inwardly: “You’re not sleeping on that couch. Every night, you fight this prince for the bed.”

    Two hours later.

Dr. Wei Jia rushed in with his medicine box.

As soon as he entered, he saw Chu Baihan sleeping soundly on the bed while the prince sat beside her with a cold face, his back covered in silver needles.

    “Your Highness, the Princess Consort…”

“Shut up,” Yan Lin growled, radiating icy anger.

    Wei Jia: “…”

He just wanted to ask a question. Why was the prince suddenly so fierce?

Not daring to say anything more, he quickly moved behind Yan Lin and said in a small voice, “Your Highness, I’ll begin removing the needles now.”

He steadied his emotions and started removing them, but several times he couldn’t help gasping softly in awe.

The Princess Consort’s acupuncture skills were far more refined than he ever imagined.

Sensing Wei Jia’s excitement, Yan Lin’s eyes flickered.

A girl exiled to Jiangnan by the Chu family—yet eleven years later, she had mastered such advanced medical skills.

**Chu Baihan, just how many secrets are you hiding from this prince?**
