SYADEPCO – CH029
by YourheartbeatChapter 29: A Plan to Perish Together
“But, Your Highness, your eyes…”
Zi Wu hesitated, looking worried.
Yan Lin didn’t respond. Instead, he stepped over the threshold right in front of him.
Zi Wu froze at the sight.
When he finally snapped out of it, he was so overwhelmed that he could barely speak.
“Y-Your Highness, y-your eyes…”
“I can roughly make out outlines now,” Yan Lin replied calmly, his back still facing him.
“Y-Your Highness, I-I’ll go prepare the horse at once!” Zi Wu stumbled as he ran out, nearly tripping over the threshold in his excitement.
The Prince’s eyes had finally improved. Even though he could only vaguely see outlines, it was already an enormous piece of good news.
The Princess must be safe. She had to return and hear this good news.
…
**On the mountain.**
“Wait a moment.”
Chu Baihan suddenly stopped walking and pulled back Ruo Lan, who was about to continue forward.
They had just gathered all eight herbs and were on their way back down the mountain, but something felt off to her as they walked.
She had always had sharper hearing and sense of smell than others. Now, she could hear footsteps approaching — and not just one person.
They had been searching for herbs here for a while and hadn’t encountered a single person. Now, all of a sudden, several people were heading their way. That definitely wasn’t normal.
“Ruo Lan, run!” Chu Baihan grabbed Ruo Lan’s arm and tried to quickly pull her down the mountain.
But just then, a few figures blocked their path.
It was… Su Yuan!
Chu Baihan’s expression turned serious.
Su Yuan squinted, staring coldly at her with a sinister expression.
“Chu Baihan, it really is you! You actually came here to die at my hands.”
He recognized her?
Chu Baihan’s heart sank.
Hadn’t she disguised herself well before? The past two times, Su Yuan hadn’t recognized her. Why now?
But this wasn’t the time to dwell on that. She pulled Ruo Lan back a few steps and shouted, “Run!”
But women were naturally at a disadvantage in strength, and Su Yuan’s group had martial skills. They were quickly caught up.
Su Yuan looked at her with eyes that seemed capable of devouring someone alive. “Chu Baihan, you really don’t know your place.”
“Su Yuan, I’m now the Princess Consort of Prince Lin. If you dare lay a hand on me, you’d better be ready for the consequences,” Chu Baihan glared coldly and warned sharply.
Su Yuan scoffed.
“Chu Baihan, he doesn’t even love you. He wouldn’t stir up trouble for your sake. And if you die here, who’s going to know it was me? You’d just become a lonely wandering ghost.”
Chu Baihan’s face grew colder. She knew it — Su Yuan wouldn’t let her go.
“I’m the one you have a grudge against. Let my maid go. You can do what you want with me,” she said after closing her eyes and reopening them, trying to bargain.
“Princess!” Ruo Lan was almost crying in panic.
Chu Baihan shook her head at her.
She didn’t want her own misfortune to drag down an innocent life.
“Heh, how touching. But today, I want *both* of you dead!” Su Yuan’s eyes glinted with cruelty.
He signaled his guards to seize them.
“Ruo Lan, listen to me,” Chu Baihan said in a low voice. “When you get a chance, escape.”
“No, Princess, I’ll stay with you!” Ruo Lan sobbed.
The guards were almost upon them. Chu Baihan hurled everything she had at them, causing a brief distraction.
Using that chance, she shoved Ruo Lan hard.
“Run! Go back to the palace and get help! If you hesitate, we both die!” she shouted.
Tears streamed down Ruo Lan’s face. Hearing that, she gritted her teeth and ran down the mountain with all her strength.
“Dammit! Go get that wretched girl back for this prince!” Su Yuan roared in fury.
Although Prince Lin had no real power, even a crippled camel was bigger than a horse. Crossing him wouldn’t bring any benefit.
He couldn’t let that maid live.
“Kill this wretched woman first,” he ordered, glaring at Chu Baihan, his eyes full of murderous intent.
Chu Baihan’s body tensed. She was calculating whether she had any chance of survival.
Soon, a plan began to form in her mind.
Just as the guards charged forward, she did the unthinkable — she rushed straight at them.
Her sudden move startled the group.
The guard with the sword hesitated, and she seized the moment to sidestep and launch herself directly at Su Yuan.
Seeing her leap toward him, Su Yuan sneered.
Did this wretched woman really think she could hurt him again without any inner strength?
Last time had been a fluke — he was caught off guard. This time, she wouldn’t succeed.
He summoned inner strength into his palm and struck just as she came close.
*Pfft!* Blood spurted from Chu Baihan’s mouth. Her organs felt like they were being torn apart, and she trembled violently.
“Chu Baihan, you’re dead for sure,” Su Yuan said smugly.
But Chu Baihan sneered back at him. “We’ll see who dies.”
Then, despite the pain, she shoved him hard, and they both toppled backward.
Earlier, she had noticed there was a steep and long slope behind him.
Anyone falling from that height was as good as dead, but leaping down might offer a sliver of survival.
As for Su Yuan — she would drag him down with her. He didn’t deserve an easy life.
“Your Highness!” his followers screamed.
The slope was indeed treacherous. As they tumbled down, sharp rocks scraped at their bodies. Chu Baihan had no idea how many injuries she had anymore. Her organs screamed in pain.
Soon, her consciousness began to fade.
